hmm
air is heavy with smell of smoke
humidity of 13% and santa ana winds prolly not helping.
hopefully the pple in ramona and the NE parts of SD are doing ok.

heres to hoping its not firestorm 2003! repeat.

update 1230h: talking heads on tv saying its worse than firestorm 2003. geh. hopefully everyone i know is doing ok and being safe. i'm not being evacuated. doubt i will need to be, i'm kinda south west of most the action. hopefully it will stay that way.

update: 1705h the wonders of the internet, link for updates on fires/evacuation areas/road closures on a map courtesy of KPBS and the <3 that is google maps and google's bandwidth
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&ie=UTF8&om=1&msa=0&msid=114250687465160386813.00043d08ac31fe3357571&ll=32.990236,-116.732483&spn=1.105782,1.757813&z=9&

update 102307 0900h: woke up this morning and still no evac! woot!
RSS feed from local news about the fire http://sosdfireblog.blogspot.com/
looks like harris fire from the south is moving towards spring valley. KPBS lost their radio tower and now is broadcasting on 94.9. kudos to the doods at my fave radio station for helping out.
in other news, work is closed today too. and i am at home endlessly refreshing the news sites and/or hte fire map and listening to talking heads on tv. i should get one of those hand crank emergency radios for self one day. if i lose cable, i lose internet and news access. bleah.
it looks like FEMA's in town, governator's in town, katie couric's in town, etc etc thats a dang lotta press. but everyone seems to be doing ok. tho some talking heads on tv needs to STFU. people's lives and homes and their everything are at stake here, whatever their political leaning, we're all in this together. fingerpointing is silly and counterproductive.
*deep breath and steps off my soapbox*

This post is oddly poetic. Next stop the Best American series! If you aren't burned to cinders first, that is.

ACk... yeah. News reports here aren't good either. Good to know you are as of now, far from the action.

yeah. already fielded parents' call.
i'm prolly gonna get another one tonight.
i doubt i will need to be evac-ed. tho its kinda scary to think that the fire already jumped I-15.TWICE. and that freeway is *8* lanes wide. thankfully its pretty much all north of me right now.
i'm still packing some stuff just in case.
but yeah assuming the winds can die down (right now i think they are saying ~50mph to 80mph gusts >.>) probably can rest easy for tonight. if not, shrug.
what i was hearing today from the authorities somehow felt like its not impossible that pacific ocean = final fire front. now THAT's something that reallllly scary to think about.

Ack... Not that near you but still. The Pacific?? That's really scary.

well considering both the fires are still 0-5% contained. shrug. its not an impossibility.
the authorities didnt outright SAY that. but feeling i got was hmmm.
anyways, still here, still chugging along. kinda regret not getting a air purifier the last time i was at costco. i was SORELY tempted even tho that was like way before this firestorm started. but hte air inside my flat is still pretty ok. since i have hte fans on and the windows are all closed.
