LOL

yeah. fri nite was mogwai.
ear melting experience. tho nothing quite like the 15min feedback at MBV@coachella LOL
hence the subject line. opening band was dead meadows-> eh. shrug.

sat(yesterday) nite was NIN|JA
*snicker* that name always cracks me up.

the show as usual was awesome. the energy, the intensity was perfect. a tad disappointing set list from NIN for me. things that surprised me was he sang fragile and i am afraid of americans. i wouldve liked to hear also 'something i can never have/perfect drug/everyday is exactly the same'. ah well.shrug. theres one more chance next friday LOL
amazingly there wasnt 'closer' but there were the standards of hurt/head like a hole/terrible lie (where we had a tech/sound problem and trent got reallly pissed)/march of pigs/wish... and more stuff. i can prolly find a setlist somewhere on the interwebs later. LOL
but it was a really too short a set. sigh.

JA was good. i forgotten how good that band is LOL. last song was 'jane says' ahhh~

and oh yeah, i also forgot how small the GAPIT area at cricket amphitheatre was cf the whole place. it was nice to be up pretty close. LOL

ps: i was amused to read local news review about the NIN|JA concert. dood was like all kinda whiny abt NIN had no big light show this time. wtf man, that was already old news (no big light show). LOL. but i think reviewer is more JA fan LOL. i will admit JA put on a really good show. plus perry ferrell isnt as annoying in JA vs the other times i've seen him live solo/satellite party. he was also kinda fun when he was dj peretz too. LOL

and setlist courtesy of nin boards
00. Kick Out The Jams (w/ SSSC)
01. Home
02. 1,000,000
03. Terrible Lie
04.
so i watched quite few more youtube videos on mylene's new concert tour which started in nice last night? or smthg.

i agree with zaff that its one of the best costumes for her shows so far. i think they look more structured/coherent. shrug. her hair and makeup looked more subdued than in the past. maybe mylene is accepting that time is an enemy she cannot defeat. *gasp*

the tech/stage design for this one seems to be the accumulation of the various tech stuff/design ideas shes used over the last few tours, e.g. the LED screens as stage doors, the stairs, the animatronix statues, the insect/scarab? 'chair'. the exit end was a nice echo to the avant concerts (but down -into hell perhaps?- instead of up-acension LOL), the intro/entry was a lot simpler but the use of LED screens was a nice touch.
alain escalle's fascination with death seems to dovetail with mylene's obessesions quite nicely. sometimes it feels like we are entering into a 'bodies' exhibition ..but also with LED screens/strobe lights/lasers/dancers and a band. LOL

personally, i still think NIN lights in the sky shows had a more intuitive and maybe more immersive use of LED screens in a show than what i saw for mylene. granted for the latter, its not a lot and it looks like i wont be able to go for the brussels show. but. shrug.

the setlist (and mylene usually doesnt vary) is a tad disappointing. outta the whole list posted, i wouldve liked to hear je te rends/a quoi je sers/nous souviendrons nous outta the older albums, and from the new album i'm only really interested in c'est dans l'air.

so yeah i think i am not being a very good fan in saying i wont mind going to see her for this one, but not like feeling any compulsion at all. ah well. i think maybe the really good memories of being GAPIT for the avant series of concerts in jan 2006 just pwns the whole stadium tour shows that will be put on for this series. but supposedly theres 2? stage designs one for hte stadiums and one for hte 'smaller' venues.

in second thoughts, i remember the stadium setup on the ticket sales page. and it seems like theres a walkway into the GAPIT. so i figure there's probably gonna more walking/interacting with the GAPIT doods and also prolly pyro/fireworks when towards the end she sings si j'avais au moins before she exits. i cant see mylene completely changing the setup as its a traveling show

but am pretty sure there will be more youtubes videos, and rumours of a blu-ray HD dvd of the concert tour abound. la la la~.

PS: i just realised i just saw the drummer abrahim? (i forgot his last name) like not more than 2 weeks ago, going at it with macca's band. tee hee. that was a good memory, fireworks and all. *nods*
PS2: listening to a bad audio rip of the Nice show, i am wondering if there's any auto-tune used LOL, coz dang! mylene misses quite a few notes....LOL

quickie impressions from the long weekend.
it might still take me a few more to process the whole weekend. :)

fri
gui boratto- good. but disappointed that he was DJ set and had no live instrumentation. shrug. it felt like i was listening to a shortened version of his very recent (like less than a month) essential mix. which worried me in the beginning since that mix was built around the second album (which i love) but i wanted to hear 'beautiful life' :) but yeah he dropped beautiful life :) the crowd goes wild. and i think he went into opus17 after and one more? maybe before he was done.

WAS- caught hte tail tail end coz i was at gui. all i remembered was they ended with the great escape. LOL they sound pretty much like on the album. :) and quite a bit of energy.

listened to a little bit of airbourne toxic event. it was ok.
think we wandered around for food a bit.
also think i caught a song or two from buraka som sistema. but really short coz we basically were gonna park ourselves at the mainstage for the ff-moz-macca marathon.

ff- nick hurt his foot, in crutches. i think that also dampened the sheer crazy intensity that i have come to expect from FF shows. shrug. i saw them at canes last dec. come on, small club. liek TINY. stage diving during this ffire. i dont really need to say more :)

moz- 'can u bear even more?' *snicker* 'i can smell burning flesh. i can only hope its human' ROTFL. ahh moz. i still like his voice. but his ego... *rolls eyes*

bummed that i missed leonard cohen but i had a primo spot by the back quadrant near the front by the rails... i mean come on. thankfully theres a nice rip of cohen's set out there. :)

macca- 2.5h. huge karaoke fest during beatles songs. the setlist can b had on the internets. the LED screens on the side were GINORMO. and i totally had a great time. its hard to imagine how insane and happy everyone was. seriously. the closest thing i could compare to was its like going to a lips concert. but with older people. ROTFL.

sat
joss stone- was disappointed. duno if it was just coming down from high from macca or just she was a little bland. shrug.

got stuck with a migraine attack. didnt bring excedrin. snarfed the last 2 tabs from myyah. thank god. hung out at the A/C tent for like 30-40min until it kicked in. phew.

AFP= F_CK YEAH! opening of zarathustra with volunteers streaming on stage with letters painted on their backs spelling out 'AMANDA FUCKING PALMER' *raises fist in air in solidarity*
opened with astronaut then runs in teh family, rest kinda blur. but i remember guitar hero, oasis (i guess she got in trouble in UK for that song and video, which is silly), coin operated boy, girl anachronism and a cello accompany by zoe keating (who kicks a lotta rear posterior end too) cover of muse's 'time is running out'. then the OMFGWTFBBQ AFP crowd surfs from stage to end of tent and whips out a ukele and HUGE tent singalong to radiohead's 'creep'
YES~~~~...... it was MOST excellent~~~~

thievery corp- eh. the set was kinda disjointed to me. shrug. they were good. and had a live band accompaniment and various guest vocalists including perry ferrell. but was eh

then wandered to the chemical brothers. but by then i was exhausted. migraine and AFP took a lot outta me. chem bros were good tho. (there was also a looota pot in teh air and was making me even more light headed) so we just headed back out to the main stage.
caught the opening part of killers. first FIRST two songs were 'human' and 'somebody told me' so i basically was ok with leaving then and there. and we did.
got outta the parking lot in RECORD time like 30mins(compared to the 3h clusterf*ck that was trying to get out after macca the previous nite)

sun
i am glad i took kken's advice and hit plump djs.
actually managed to catch tail end of perry ferrell who was before. basically he had a band and was doing songs from JA and satellite party. eh. figure i will see the real thing when i go to the NINJA tour LOL. that still cracks me up all the time. LOL

plump djs- f-ing rocked teh tent. absolutely CRAZY. soo good. they are sooo good at what they do. one of the cleanest sets i've ever heard. simply amazing. i am pretty much running outta superlatives LOL. i didnt even realise i was dancing that much until i came out and my whole shirt was pretty much soaked LOL. but yeah totally not regretting going and missing most of YYY.

made it to the last part of YYY. caught tail end of skeletons. then they went into maps, heads will roll and ended their set with y control (as usual). i think i like YYY in a smaller venue. hte main stage just seems so... far away for seeing karen etal:)

MBV- wouldve killed my eardrums if i didnt bring plugs. LOL. 15min+ of white noise/feedback. la la la ~. good times!

cure- ok what is it with the older bands being able to marathon their sets and totally outshine the younger whippersnappers? coz like dood, macca on fri and now robert smith etal on sun:) doods sang for like 3h including after GV had to cut the power to the sound coz they ran overtiem AS THE BAND STARTED 'BOYS DONT CRY" come on~
